You know what really grinds my gears?

I’ve recently realised that I can’t wait to be a grumpy old man sitting in the pub mumbling away about the “youth of today” playing pool across the other side of the bar.

OK maybe not that far, but growing older I’m finding more and more little things that really grind my gears and I’m wondering, am I just a grumpy git? I’m 25 and I’m at the age where I no longer want to go clubbing every weekend and get “smashed” or “plastered” or whatever random verb people are using today to describe getting hopelessly drunk. To be honest, I’ve been that way for a while.

But it doesn’t feel long ago that I was the generation inventing slang words, memes and attending friends house parties whilst their parents were away. I remember going out and assuming that everyone in the club was my age. But now that I’m 25 I’ve had the sudden epiphany that there are kids in there 7 years younger than me! (and probably younger than that with fake IDs) and the thought of spending time with people that don’t remember the Power Rangers, Tamagotchi, AOL, Pogs or even know the struggle of having to top up your Nokia 3310 before squeezing your message into 160 characters, really upsets me.

ANYWAY, I digress, the point of this article was to start a list of the things that really wind me up and to get feedback (for my own sanity and peace of mind) from others to see if I’m the only one overreacting of if these are common bugbears.

I’m going to start this list now but probably add to it each week as I remember/discover more, so let’s kick it off with…

1. People who post screen shots of other photos from their phone.

I really didn’t have to go too far to find an example of this, jump onto and Facebook sales page and you see people doing this for fun.

What stresses me out about it is not only doesn’t it look messy (maybe that’s the designer in me) but these people clearly have access to the actual photos, even if they aren’t posted on their page or saved to their phone, if you’ve found the photo online just hold down on it until the “save photo” option apears then save and post that! Don’t take a screenshot of the whole screen and then use that, no one wants to see how much signal you’ve got or what you’re battery level is plus it lowers the quality of the photo which is a whole other problem in itself.

These people think they being really clever as surprisingly a lot of people don’t know about the screenshot function on their phone but really they just look stupid when they were so close to saving the photo properly when they screenshotted it instead.

Don’t get me wrong there are times when posting a screen shot is absolutely acceptable, showing a comment on a photo for instance but just posting a screenshot of another photo is just lazy, messy and quite frankly, ignorant.

Well, that’s enough ranting for one morning, I’m going to be updating this article regularly so keep and eye out.

Do you have any bugbears like mine? Or do you have some you’d like to share? Let me know what you think in the comments below
